State Fair Week

Last weekend we went to the State Fair! The boys wanted to ride the train down to the park and Josh thoroughly enjoyed every minute. First thing on the agenda, was breakfast- a Fletcher's Corny Dog. Ahhh, what a wonderful start to a day! Josh was in complete awe of all the lights, sounds, and exciting things to see. The entrance we went in was conveniently located by all the tiny tot rides and I thought he would jump out of his skin when he saw the rides with mini-airplanes, cars, trains, boats, etc. It was like a Josh-themed wonderland. Here are some pics....

We didn't ride the Ferris Wheel because Josh is too small and it requires way too many precious tickets. But, it sure does make for a great picture!Due to the pesky sun, I had to cut Big Tex's head off of this picture, but it's a tradition to include a Big Tex picture. There was an AWESOME miniature train riding around Tex's big ole' boots. Josh would have been happy watching that train go around and around for the rest of the day, but fried food and furry animals were calling our name.

Josh knows his fine cuisine. I love this mischievous look on his face.

The three of us had a healthy lunch of (another) Corny Dog and a funnel cake. Ughhhhhhh. I would have been okay to never have another piece of fried anything ever again. But, scroll down to see how long that state of mind lasted!

A cool Popsicle cures all.
Poor Josh. Little did we know when we took him to the State Fair he had a (quoting his pediatrician) "raging ear infection." He had been under the weather and feverish a few days before, but was quickly back to his normal self by Fair time. Then, a few days later, he had a ridiculously high, almost ER- worthy, fever of 104. Sure enough, poor kid was suffering from an ear infection worthy of our pediatrician calling in the medical student to teach her what an ear is NOT supposed to look like.

***Bonus State Fair Day!!***

Thank God for antibiotics! After two healthy doses and some rest, Josh was fever free and roaring to go with his friends, Matthew and Ava from Austin!

" Come on guys, try a little harder.... it can't be THAT hard to push me!"

On Tuesday, we had planned on visiting the super cool Children's Museum. Little did we know, since it is on the grounds of Fair Park we were FORCED to buy a ticket to the State Fair also! Good thing is was $3 Dr Pepper day and Joy risked her life by running across a busy street to purchase some cans for us!

First, we took the kids into the museum and had a blast playing in the water, and with the cars, and instruments, and kitchen, and tunnels, and milking the cow, and the list goes on and on.

I wish this could be a video for you to watch all the kids jumping and dancing on the stage of funny mirrors.

After the museum, we headed to the Fair for some more fun. Josh and Ava had been there already, but it was Matt's first Fair experience and the look on his face was priceless. I can't imagine how many questions he had for his mom about everything he was seeing!

Josh was just a wee short for the kid rides. But, the nice lady let me get on with him and life was good again.

Here we are on the airplane ride! Josh had a great time, but my fingers were blue from the tight grip he had on me. This kind of ride I can handle. Another bonus of having a kid!
After another Corny Dog lunch ( I told you my fried-food aversion wouldn't last long), we went to the petting zoo, which Josh loved as always. He fed goats, pigs, a giraffe, a mini-zebra, and he even got to pet a giant turtle.

As you can imagine, Josh is worn out from all the excitement over the past few days. He loved having Matthew and Tricia over to spend the night. When he got home from school yesterday, he ran around the house screaming for "Heww? Heww?" ( aka: Matthew). Now he is stuck with boring old me for the rest of the week.

Big weekend coming up Horn fans!
Hook 'em!!
