Night, night, Oscar.

Josh's sweet great-grandfather, Oscar passed away on Friday after 87 adventure-packed years. He was a great man with a tender heart. He lived his life working hard for his family, loving his wife, fixing anything and everything with his own two hands, and serving the Lord. We always joke about Oscar and his 9 lives. He was always doing crazy stunts that led to him breaking any number of bones. Last year, he fell off his motorcycle and broke his ribs. Let me repeat, he was 86 and riding HIS motorcycle. Ha! My favorite "Oscarism" is when he met Josh for the first time, he said over and over, " Well, that Joshua is 24 karat." I agree, Oscar.

When Granee brought Josh to see Oscar at the viewing tonight, he said, "Night night, Oscar." That just about broke my heart, but it is such a comfort to know after 7 years of being apart, Oscar is finally reunited with the love of his life, Grace. Together as they should be. We are all blessed to have known Oscar and to be touched by the love he showed everyone in his life.
We'll miss you Oscar.

Thanks to our impromptu trip to the Houston area, we were able to head to Barn and MeMe's house for a quick visit. Timing was perfect as Barn had just arrived from Dubai and we were able to see him for the first time since February! We took Josh to the pool, played lots of cars, watched lots of golf, and did a lot of running wild around the house.
We have been driving all over south Texas the past 5 days. We have packed and unpacked our car about 12 times (not exaggerating). Poor Chris. Josh has been a great traveler in the car, not so much in the bed, but all in all he has been a trooper. As a treat, we took him to the Children's Museum today. Wow. That is some kind of awesomeness they have going on in Houston.
Josh very much agreed.
This thing was super cool. It teaches the kids about pulley systems and teaches mommies about how weak their triceps are.
Josh L.O.V.E.D. it!
My arms are still burning.
"I'm Ron Burgundy?"
There was a news room and the kids could sit behind the news desk and "read" the latest headlines and see themselves on TV. Josh was unimpressed by the top stories and sat staring at the TV screen waiting for Cars to come on .
Josh was quite excited about going shopping at the grocery store. I was quite excited it was a H.E.B. If you look closely, you will see Josh filled his basket up with only two items, ice cream and steaks. Nice. I hope he invites me over for that meal.

Hey Facebook haters out there, listen to this super cool story and then "friend" me when you come over to the other side....
If you read this blog, you know of the John, John, Luke triad, also known as Josh's best bud's at school. These 4 boys have been in "class" together since they were only ~6 months old. Josh and Luke have had a serious "bromance" going on since they first met. They have always looked alike and dressed alike and acted alike. Even the ladies at the gym get them mixed up. Luke's mom, Katie and I are always getting comments on how much they love being together. Well, thanks to a Facebook update by Katie's uncle about HIS uncle, Oscar (Chris' grandfather- try and stay with me, folks) we discovered that Chris and Katie are 2nd cousins (their mom's are first cousins) and therefore Luke and Josh are 3rd (?) cousins! Crazy! Katie and I have always talked about Josh and Luke's special bond, and now it is clear we weren't silly mom's making something up!

Headed home sweet home tomorrow after the funeral.
Oh man, how I love being home.

Beautiful words about Oscar, Alison. Sorry that he had to go, but how wonderful that he got to meet Josh and live such a full life. I'm sure he's thrilled beyond measure to be where he is right now. Also, I LOVE the news room shot of Josh and the Anchorman reference...genius! And that cousin thing is whack! Makes you wonder who else you might be related to...

What a beautiful memorial to Oscar, No doubt, by now, he's read it from Heaven. I'm so glad Josh was able to spend time with his
G-Gdad,a special treat for Josh. Unfortunately, Alison did not get to know either of hers. May Oscar rest in peace.
