A long, long time ago, in a land just south of here, our family went to the beach to have a fun time with some old college friends. Thanks to the business of having two kids, this is the first you are hearing of our trip to the beach. It's no surprise, as this is a tradition we look forward to every Labor Day.
This year was no different than any other.
It was pure perfection.
5 days of non-stop chaos and fun.
Josh loved having his favorite buddies to room with and play with all weekend.
I think this was the best picture in the history of this trip and we had a recording breaking number of kids.
What a great looking bunch of future Longhorns!
Another successful year of toddler races. Josh was one of the tallest of all of them, even though he
is a year younger than most of the first-borns, he gets that from his uncles. It's funny to see how every year, the kids get a little bit more competitive and serious about the race. Including ours.
Next year, I wouldn't doubt it if we saw a few racing cleats and warm-up laps.
Emily was hesitant about the water and sand at first, but after a day or two, she was brave enough to splash around the waves. By day #3, she was bold enough to scold the crashing waves by holding out her hand and yelling, "STOP STOP!" as they came crashing into her.
Sadly, they didn't listen.
The boys on grill night.
Big memory from this night was Chris setting his flip flop on fire and three of the other
"grown men" witnessing it and silently laughing as Chris went about his grilling. That is, until he felt it and danced around like... well, like his feet were on fire.
I loved watching Josh and Emily play together in the pool.
This was Emily's preferred way to speed the weekend.
I like her style. The girl can relax.
Glow stick night with the big kids.
Big memory from this evening was when Josh "accidentally" ate a glow stick and had
glow stick "juice" all over his mouth.
And, by "accidentally" I mean he bit into the glow stick like it was a piece of celery.
Beautiful morning for a run on the beach.
It's fun being a kid!
On the last night at the beach, the brave men built a fire.
And the even braver women, brought their children around it.
It all worked out delightfully and was a great addition to the weekend of beach fun.
Labor Day 2013 was one of the best yet!
The kids were great, the roomies were the best, and the beach never fails in providing
hours and hours of endless fun for the kids, leading to some wonderful afternoon naps.
Sadly, I am typing this the day after Thanksgiving. It only took me 3 months to actually sit down and do this blog post.
However, remembering this trip and the unbelievable true and life-long friendships Chris and I (and our kids) are blessed with makes me so thankful for these people and the special times we share, year after year.
